As some of you are aware, I’m a pro-wrestling fan. While I’ve followed sports entertainment very closely for my entire life, just recently something very special transpired in TNA Wrestling that would go amiss by even the most astute observer.
Take note of this roster of champions. Not only are they five of the most accomplished superstars in the industry today (arguably five future hall-of-famers at that), not only are each of these athletes five of my personal all time favorites, but more than that this may be the most diverse assortment of champions any top tier wrestling promotion has ever had. In fact with the exception of the Wolves, every champion is a person of color.
Why does this matter? Because sadly professional wrestling doesn’t have the greatest track record when it comes to diversity, multiculturalism, or being progressive. TNA specifically………………………………………….less said about past sins, the better.
There is power in media.
With all the chaos and the madness going on in this country and for that matter all over the world, diversity, representation matters more than ever. Society needs to learn that champions, greatness comes in all forms from all walks of life: men, women, black, white, Asian, etc. And this right here is a testament of that.
And this right here makes me truly proud to be a TNA fan and a wrestling geek in general.
